MILTON BARRAGAN DUMET
Sculptor, Architect, 1934 – 2024
He worked in architecture and planning since 1958, and in sculpture since 1968. He studied and trained in architecture and planning: Quito, Paris, Rome, Denmark, Nederlands and Great Britain, from 1953 to 1966, and is currently living in Quito, Ecuador, South America.
Prizes, monumental sculptures and architecture:
– First Prize for the architectural design of “La Dolorosa National Sanctuary” in Quito, 1966
– First Prize for the design of “Cima de la Libertad” the National Monument for the Fatherland in Quito, 1978
– First Prize at the National Competition on Fine Arts, sponsored by The Central Bank of Ecuador, 1978
– Monumental Sculpture “Adventurers & Amazon”, commissioned by the Municipal Government of Quito. It stands at Bienvenida Square, 2004
Creating art is not a dialectic process. It is rather a compulsive need that gives way to an indomitable force urging the artist to work in frenzy, as if his inner peace of mind should depend exclusively on the results of his effort.
